Owner of Stay Awhile Midwifery

Hi there! I’m Teryl Stay, Midwife, and owner of Stay Awhile Midwifery. I’ve been in the birth work world for over 17 years. I started out as a birth and postpartum doula attending births in all settings. It only took attending ONE home birth to convince me that that’s where I belong in this work, as a midwife. I attended and graduated from the Midwives College of Utah where I earned my degree and completed a five year apprenticeship. I am a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) and Licensed Direct Entry Midwife (LDEM) in the state of Utah. I’ve been a practicing midwife for 3 1/2 years and have attended over 250 births. I am committed to being an inclusive human and care provider. I am in LOVE with this work!

I have five kids, a wonderful husband, 2 cats, a dog and at least 50 plants. I am a lover of antiques, crystals, herbs, bubble baths, good books, family history and watercolor painting. I am a soul deep homebody married to the most adventurous man I’ve ever known. I LOVE that on occasion he convinces me to join him on his hiking, mountain biking, cold plunging, nature loving, road tripping adventures. We have so much fun together!

Kalli Chason

Student Midwife & Advanced Birth Assistant

A little over nine years ago I fell into the line of birth work by first becoming a Doula, then Postpartum Doula, Childbirth Educator, Hypnobabies Instructor, Placenta Encapsulator, and so on. I then gave birth to my first child at home in our little studio apartment, and it changed everything, I was empowered. When our daughter was about eighteen months old I was invited to Haiti to learn from the midwives and it was there that I fell in love with the work and felt called to further my education and become a midwife. Now, almost six years later, and with two more of my own homebirths under my belt, I am fulfilling that dream. I have been in the Midwives College of Utah program since 2020 and working with Teryl since the very beginning! My main passions of birth work are birth justice and birth support for the LGTBQIA+ community. This work lights me up and I am so grateful for the opportunities to support such incredible people while in the perinatal period.
